5/30/01: Here's the nest under
our deck, with a parent's head peeking out. |

Here are the five eggs. |

5/31/01: The parent again, looking
suspicious. Once I get any closer, it will fly away. It will be back
within a few minutes of my leaving. |

Three chicks! (Seriously ugly,
aren't they?) |

A few hours later, the remaining
eggs had been moved around. I believe the parents turn the eggs regularly
in order to keep the yolk centered. |

6/1/01: The final chick is hatching!

chick is out (I'd guess it's the pinkish one on the left) and the
shell has been removed. |

6/2/01: Growing rapidly. The
grid of bumps on their backs are the beginnings of feathers. |
